draw.

Why drawing is important.
There is a very inspiring Ted Talk titled, “How learning to draw has taught me how to live” by Brent Eviston. He makes some very strong statements that I agree with, such as, “Drawing is as essential a skill as literacy and numeracy.” This is one concept we have found important in our class. Allowing children to draw their ideas and observations, as Brent Eviston states, “becomes an active way of engaging in reality.”

He also says, and I have found it to be true, that drawing is closer to a mathematical problem than it is to capturing a photograph. When drawing, “observing, analyzing, and recording is done with the possibility of reimagining.” Drawing has been my key focus this year as I have been learning while watching children draw as well as practicing the act of drawing myself.
